Brutus (Ship) logbook, 1806.

The logbook of the ship Brutus details a shipping voyage from Calcutta to Newburyport, Mass., June-Aug. 1806. The logbook is incomplete. The ship's home port was Newburyport; the owners were John Pettingell, Jonathan Gage, and Samuel Chase; the master was James Francis; the logbook keeper was Moses Emery. The logbook includes equipment and supplies, specifically provisions; notes on shipboard occupations; and reference to a privateering incident. During its voyage, the Brutus spoke the brig Endeavor out of Portland.
